Visitors with special needs

The entire Firepower complex is wheelchair friendly and is ramped throughout. Lifts provide access to the first floor exhibition areas and disabled toilets are easily accessible. The Museum has begun a programme of displaying the names of exhibits in Braille alongside flat outline reliefs.

Firepower and the Greenwich Heritage Centre have created a special great value package that will keep groups entertained for many hours. The Heritage Centre is right next door to Firepower so you can easily extend your visit to the Museum without any inconvenience! The Royal Arsenal dates back to Henry VIII and the Heritage Centre traces the site's 400 year history. During the First World War, the Royal Arsenal employed 100,000 workers and hands-on exhibitions explore the impact of the Royal Arsenal on Woolwich and the lives of those who made the guns now on display in Firepower.

Special Notice

In Autumn 2008 the Museum began a major re-organisation of its extensive reserve collection. This means that many of the exhibits currently stored offsite are to be moved to Firepower and will have to be stored in buildings and areas previously open to the public.

During this period of re-organisation, expected to last throughout 2009, it will not be possible for visitors to access the Museum's Cold War Gallery.

The Museum apologises to visitors for this temporary inconvenience which will ultimately lead to even more comprehensive displays of our world-class exhibits going on show to our visitors.
