Obtaining Service Records
Unfortunately we are not permitted to hold personal service records in the Royal Artillery Library or Archives. Such records of individual service as survive are held either by the Ministry of Defence or the National Archives (formerly the Public Record Office) at Kew.
You may also find further information for war service (in the two World Wars only) in the unit War Diaries, which are held by the National Archives at Kew. Another option is to do the research in our Reading Room, using the ‘second copy’ versions of the War Diaries which are held in our archives. Occasionally we are also able to identify collections of letters, diaries and photographs which may also be of relevance from the numerous soldiers’ papers in our archives.
