Firepower volunteers honoured in Museum Awards
- posted in Awards, Community, Volunteering
Many people don’t know this but museums like Firepower rely in the dedication and support of volunteers to help us preserve our country’s history, as well as provide access to all different types of visitors. That’s why we’re incredibly proud that our own volunteers have been honoured in recent years at the Museum Awards. Check out this video and meet Jason, one of our very own Firepower volunteers. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Nigel Clifton on nigelc@firepower.org.uk.
See the ghostly past of The Royal Arsenal this 15 May
- posted in Community
On Saturday 15 May, Firepower, the Royal Artillery Museum is hosting the Royal Arsenal Heritage Quarter CommunityHistory Day (and Night!) with a special Ghost Walk & Dinner Tour of the Royal Arsenal. Building on the success of the 2009 events, this day will be all about the Royal Arsenal, its history and the people who lived and worked in and around it. Come and see historic film of Woolwich in the 1960s screened in the Museum’s Breech Cinema.
Museum experts will be on hand to help with family tree research – was there a Royal Artillery Gunner in your family tree? Guided tours of the Royal Arsenal will be available and the event will continue into the evening as part of the national Museums at Night programme. The Museum’s licensed Cafe & Bistro will be offering ghost tour and meal packages until 10.00pm
Staged in association with the Greenwich Heritage Centre and with free admission for all residents of the London Borough of Greenwich with proof of residence.
Royal Arsenal residents unite!

Firepower is not just the museum of the Royal Artillery – it’s a local, community facility for all residents who live in the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich. As part of the regeneration of the area, we want to bring amenities, fun and community spirit to the area, which is why are Museum Cafe is open from 9.30 am, 7 days a week and is open until 10.00pm on Wednesday to Sunday with a three course menu. On Monday and Tuesday the Café is open until 5.00pm.
Whether you are enjoying a meal in our tabled area or melting into our leather sofas with a coffee and newspaper we are sure you will find a relaxing atmosphere waiting for you in the Café’s listed building setting. During the day, and in the evening if they wish, customers can use the dedicated outdoor seating area to soak up the atmosphere of the historic Royal Arsenal. We frequently refresh our evening menus and we always offer a special of the day.
As part of generating a focal point for the local area, we have launched a series of entertainment evenings such as a Quiz Night every 3rd Thursday or the month as well as piano evenings and jazz sessions on certain Fridays and Sundays throughout the month.
However, we need your support! In order to continue putting on great events where you can relax, chat or just chill out over a drink with friends right on your doorstep, we need Residents of the Royal Arsenal to join us to keep things swinging.
For more details about upcoming entertainment and events at the Museum Cafe in the Royal Arsenal and special discounts for residents, check out our Events page and follow us on Twitter http://twitter.com/FirepowerMuseum
Thanks and we hope to see you soon!
