Making An Enquiry
Making An Enquiry
Staff at the Royal Artillery Museum can advise you where to find information and carry out research on a limited basis. Please read the information below before getting in touch with us.

Personal service records are not held in the Library or Archive. Such records of individual service as survive are held by the Ministry of Defence or the National Archives. See 'Obtaining Service Records' for further information.

How to make your enquiry

Please make your enquiry in writing
State clearly what information you seek
Include your full name, email, fax number and full postal address which is essential if the reply involves documents or pictures

Please Note: Advice is free but there may be a charge if you wish us to carry out detailed research on your behalf. If so, you will be given an estimate of the amount of work involved and the charge. On receipt of the fee, the research will be carried out.

Enquiry response

All of our enquiries, whether by email or letter, are dealt with in strict rotation, ensuring that all receive proper attention. For this reason, you probably will not receive a reply straightaway, so please be patient.

Due to the large number of enquiries received there is a turnaround time of 4 weeks. If you have an enquiry that will involve considerable complex and time-consuming work, special arrangements will be made with you regarding turnaround of your enquiry.

Please remember that cataloguing is ongoing and information may not be readily to hand.

The following groups are entitled to 'simple research' carried out free of charge:

Serving members of the Royal Artillery and other British Armed Forces
Members of the Royal Artillery Institution
Members of the Royal Artillery Association
Friends of Firepower
Bona fide students and staff of recognised schools engaged in research as part of their teaching or studies towards a recognised public examination (GCSE, AS and A levels)
Bona fide students and staff of recognised CNAA colleges and universities engaged in research as part of their teaching or studies towards a recognise public examination (degree, diploma, GNVQ)
Ministry of Defence and other Government Departments for official research
